Mother to leading stars David Chiang ,Paul Chun , and Derek Yee , Hung Mei is an actress of some reknown in her own right. Born in Beijing, of reportedly Mandchurian ancestry, she started her career in Shanghai cinema which was in the thirties the prominent one of China. Hung Mei first married Yan Hua a famous movie actor of the period. Having migrated to Hong-Kong with her family, Hung Mei (which mean Red Rose in Chinese) became a widow in the early fifties but remarried later on with a producer who became father to Derek Yee . Apart from his acting career, she also coached many actors in the mandarin dialect.
