HKCinemagic:
What made you decide to leave Hong Kong? |
Jonathan Isgar: Work stated to slow up a bit and I was spending more time in the Philippines, sailing, windsurfing and diving. Crawford productions from Melbourne, my home town in Australia, where shooting the Feds in HK and I got the part of Ron Bone, the local federal police liaison. This gave me a more complete perspective of my abilities. They where quite happy and offered me assistance to gain equity in Australia. HK was going back to China so I went back to Australia to try acting there. I got an agent easy enough as I had a part in the next episode of the Feds to be shot in Melbourne. It’s interesting to be playing cops after being the bad guy in HK. I did all the cop shows, a Harley commercial, then Jackie turned up just as I was about to go 4x4 travelling around Australia. I got a gig on his movie Mr. Nice Guy and ended up digging holes for 10 dollars an hour to support an acting habit. So, after that I said goodbye to acting and went to work on the Pearling boats of N.W. Australia. |

HKCinemagic: How did your professional career evolved once you were far from the British colony? |
Jonathan Isgar: My agent was happy, I got good critics, but I got bored. |
|
HKCinemagic:
Did you find yourself involved in Mister Nice Guy thanks to your Hong Kong experience? |
Jonathan Isgar: Jackie Chan was a bit surprised to see me on set, but we still got on OK. It was the usual story, no script, no schedule, that was it for me…. |
|
HKCinemagic:
Do you still keep an eye on the production from Hong Kong ? |
Jonathan Isgar: I recently got in contact with Bey Logan in HK (martial arts movie guru) and was actually quite honoured that he remembered me, just to see if any of the people I worked with where still around. And I’m happy to say all seem to be doing OK, and I am hoping to have to drink with one or two of them.
I’m based in Bangkok now and work in the mining industry of West Australia. I do miss working as an actor but you can only kid yourself for so long. It was only a job and we rarely got any thanks --we were lucky to get paid. |
