Special thanks to Scott Adkins. Thanks extended to Mike Holdsworth.
HKCinemagic: On top of this, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Ninja, later this year! Could you describe what it was like shooting this film and share some of your thoughts on the movie?
Scott Adkins: I think the best way to describe it is as a martial arts comic book movie. It’s a throwback to the 80’s Ninja genre and it is absolutely action packed. I know that a lot of people will compare it to American Ninja because there is a white guy in the lead role but to be honest the real Ninja in the movie is played by Tyoshi Ihara who is in fact Japanese and a very good swordsman and former member of the Sonny Chiba Action Team. It is his character that is the Ninja and myself and Mika Hijji are being pursued through the streets of New York by this deadly assassin. He’s kind of like the shark in Jaws. He is the Ninja! I’m very happy with the film and I think it’s something the fans have been waiting for. I grew up on films like these so it’s a pleasure for me to be able to bring it to life again.
Scott Adkins is The Ninja
HKCinemagic: Ninja features a real East-meets-West story, was there a strong Eastern influence on the style of this film?
Scott Adkins: Definitely at the start of the movie as it’s set in a Japanese Martial Arts School.
HKCinemagic: Many fans will be looking forward to seeing you star in these upcoming films. Could you tell us a bit about Scott Adkins – the leading man? What’s this transition been like?
Scott Adkins:It’s not so different really, I still turn up prepared and work as hard as I can, the big difference is the work load, especially with these action movies. There’s certainly more pressure as it sometimes seems like the fate of the movie rests squarely on your shoulders but it’s something that I’ve been more than ready for and I’m confident that Ninja and Undisputed 3 will open up even more opportunities for me.
HKCinemagic: In the last few years you’ve been building a great reputation in the western market! Do you have any immediate aspirations to return to Hong Kong to do more work there? Or would you prefer to focus on the Hollywood and European markets?
Scott Adkins: I’d love to go back to Hong Kong if the project is right. I’d love to work with Donnie Yen.
HKCinemagic:We should remember you are a qualified kickboxing instructor and of course have many films under your belt. Would you ever consider working as an action choreographer or director?
Scott Adkins: I can certainly see myself directing my own action sequences in the future, yes.
HKCinemagic:Is there anything else you’d like to say to your fans right now?
Scott Adkins: Thanks for taking an interest and you can be sure that if it’s an action film with my name above the title, it won’t disappoint!
HKCinemagic: Thank you very much for all your time, Scott!
