Plot

Jiang Jiazhu is born to a feudal and superstitious family. When she was ten years old, Eldest Master Jiang gave her dead brother a wife. He also arranged a marriage for her to the eighth son of Commander Gao. However, Jiazhu loves her classmate Xinghan, whose father wants him to seek adventure away from home. When he finally goes on a journey to the northwest with his grand uncle, the young lovers are separated. Ten years later, Xinghan returns to find that the Gao family has grown even more powerful. Commander Gao forces his affections on the Jiang widow. Because of this shame, Second Master Jiang orders her to kill herself by jumping into the river. Meanwhile, Jiazhu tries to nullify her marriage pact with the Gaos, but is beaten up for her effort. @ quote newspaper serialised novel
