Plot

Zhao Futian is a peasant falsely accused of robbery by Fourth Master Chen, the local gangleader. He escapes to work overseas as a labourer. His daughter, Ah Ying, is sold to become the wife of a child. Her fiance, Xiao Niu, has a kind heart and helps her to run away. On the way, she meets Fourth Master's son, Chen Tian, who is delivering smuggled goods. Believing his lie that he would help her look for her father, she falls in with his company and is eventually raped by one of his thugs. Ah Ying later changes her name to Annie and becomes the mistress of a gangleader. Futian now returns, having made some money, to search for his daughter. Ah Ying sees the advertisement that her father is looking for her. However, she is under house arrest and cannot respond. Tian's associate, Song Shiqian, tells Futian that Ah Ying is now the adopted daughter of a rich family and has gone overseas. Next, Shiqian cheats Futian of his life savings. Futian is later told by Anna, another member of the gang, that Ah Ying has died during her journey home. A grieving Futian goes to settle scores with Fourth Master but is beaten up by his thugs and seriously injured. He is thrown into the sea and drowned. Ah Ying observes everything and tries to escape, but is stopped by Tian. During a struggle, she kills him. She then intends to commit suicide by jumping into the sea but is stopped by her uncle Fusheng. Together, they return to their home village. (Brochure)
