The pretty factory worker Ah Kuk is involved in a love-hate relationship with the seaman Wai Chun. Ah Kuk supplements her income by peddling flowers along the Wanchai shore with her elder sister Ah Heung and younger sister Lucy. To avoid drawing unwanted attention from men, the sisters smear their faces with dirt and bulk themselves up to assume a threatening demeanour. Itching to prove his muster, the broke William Shu targets the sassy Ah Kuk as his latest recruit for his swindling syndicate. Struck by her beauty behind the veil, William gives her a makeover and deceives her with intoxicating words. Ah Kuk, transformed into an elegant high-society lady overnight, is tricked into entering a marriage with the rich heir Mr Kwai who has paid the go-between a handsome sum of money. Upon his return from a voyage, Wai exposes the scam and the mastermind behind the hoax. Awakened from the pipe dream, Ah Kuk makes up with her true love. (Based on visual materials)
