Lee Wai-ching has no means to pay for her mother's burial and is hoaxed and sold to the elderly official Yeung Si-sum as his concubine. The elderly housekeeper Uncle To saves Lee from swallowing poison when the truth is known and sends the fabricated news of Lee's death to Yeung in the capital.
