Action Director / Choreographer
In the HK film production, roles are clearly defined: there are the main director who globally produces the film and the choreographer(s) who deal(s) with the action part. Slightly similar to the second unit in Western countries, choreographers are the dream makers of the HK film industry, they are the ones who set up those choreographies which have made action scenes so delightful and efficient. Undoubtedly, the most famous are Yuen Woo Ping, Tony Ching Siu Tung, Corey Yuen, Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen Liu Chia Liang, Hung Yan Yan or Bruce Law and Frankie Chan who have specialized in car scenes, or Stanley Tong, Philip Kwok, Tony Leung Siu Hung and Tang Chia.

Originally, they all have been trained in martial arts when young by means of the Peking Opera for the most famous or of recognized masters for the others. Very often, original choreographers become directors. Unfortunately, the result is sometimes not conclusive: very competent people in action cannot build up a film or properly direct actors.
